.

.

.

Hydrologic Data

After receiving the cooperating agency's biologic recommendation, the CWCB staff conducted
an evaluation of the stream hydrology to determine if water was physically available for an
instream flow appropriation. The hydro graph below was derived from data collected by the
USGS stream gage for Gypsum Creek near Gypsum, CO (ID #09069500), which has a drainage
area of 62.7 square miles (See Gage Summary in Appendix C). The total drainage area of the
Spring Creek Drainage upstream of the Best Ditch Headgate is approximately 1.4 square miles. .
The period ofrecord for this gage was 1950 to 1955 and 1965 to 1972, the period of record used
by staff in their analysis was 1950 to 1955 and 1965 to 1972, or 12 years of record. Table 2
below displays the estimated flow of Spring Creek upstream of Headwaters, in terms of a
percentage of exceedence.

Table 2: Spring Creek estimated tlow upstream of the Best Ditch Head gate,
Ex~ces Jaml3lV Februarv March AlJril Mall June Julv Aunust Seoterrl:ler October NoverrtJer llecemJer
1% 0.58 0.54 0.55 0.58 3.01 7,02 268 1.19 0,89 0,76 0.69 0.65
5% 0,54 0.49 0.49 0,56 1.88 4,78 214 1,03 0.83 0.72 0,67 0.63
10% 0.51 0.49 0.49 0,51 1.36 3,97 1.76 0.92 0.78 0.67 0,63 0.58
20% 0,49 0.45 0.45 0,49 0.96 3,30 1.36 0.83 0.65 0,67 0.58 0.56
50% 0.45 0.40 0.40 0.45 0.54 1,99 0.96 0.69 0,56 0.54 0.51 0.47
80% 0,36 0.36 0.36 0.38 0.40 1.25 0,74 0.58 0.49 0.49 0.45 0,38
90% 0,33 0.33 0,33 0.36 0.36 0,89 O.ff/' 0,54 0.47 0.45 0.40 0.36
95% 0,33 0,31 0,33 0.36 0,36 0.67 0.63 0.49 0.45 0.42 0.40 0,31
99% 0,29 0,27 0,31 0,31 0,31 0.63 0,57 0.45 0,40 0,40 0,33 0.27

Spring Creek Estimated Stream Flow
u/s of Best Ditch Headgate

4

3

J!! 2
o

---- -- ~

1

o

JAN

DEC

FEB

MAR

APR

MAY

AUG

JUN

JUL

sEP

OCT

NOV

Month

Table 2 above shows that the summer and winter recommendation of 0.35 cfs is available for all
months.

- 4-
