Hydrologic Data
After receiving the cooperating agency's biologic Tecommendation, the CWCB staff conducted
an evaluation of the stream hydrology to determine if wateT was physicalIy available for an
instream flow appropriation. There are no currently operated OT historically operated streamflow
gages for this reach. The closest gage CWCB staff found was the gage located on the San
Miguel River 4.0 miles west of the Bear CTeek drainage. The hydro graph was derived from data
collected by the USGS stream gage for the San Miguel River near TelIuride, CO (10
#09171200), which has a drainage area of 42.8 square miles. The drainage area of BeaT Creek is
approximately 6.4 square miles. Staff used a basin apportionment method to estimate stream
flows fOT Bear Creek (See Gage Summary in Appendix C). The period of record for this gage
was 1959 to 1965, the period ofTecord used by staffin their analysis was 1959 - 1965, or seven
years of record. Table 2 below displays the estimated flow of Bear Creek, in terms of a
peTcentage of exceedence.

Table 2: Estimated Stream Flow on Bear Creek
Excoodonco Jan Feb Mar Apr May Jun Jul Aug Sop Oct Nov Doc
1% 2.6 2.9 7.4 15.3 59.5 68.9 61.3 30.2 13.6 7.1 4.9 3.4
50/0 2.5 2.8 4.5 13.2 51.3 61.0 52.7 17.7 10.7 5.8 4.3 2.9
10% 2.4 2.8 3.4 11.5 35.1 52.9 39.5 13.8 9.6 5.6 4.1 2.8
20% 2.4 2.6 2.9 9.0 27.2 45.6 29.6 11.2 8.2 4.9 3.8 2.6
50% 2.2 2.2 2.4 5.1 17.5 34.1 14.3 7.5 5.4 4.0 3.2 2.5
80% 2.1 2.1 2.1 3.2 10.3 19.4 8.1 5.7 4.0 3.4 2.9 2.4
90% 1.9 2.1 2.1 2.4 6.4 17.1 6.6 4.9 3.8 3.2 2.8 2.4
95% 1.9 2.1 2.1 2.4 5.3 14.7 5.9 4.3 3.7 3.2 2.8 1.9
99% 1.9 2.1 1.8 2.3 4.3 11.8 4.8 4.0 3.5 3.1 2.6 1.9

Table 2 shows that the summeT recommendation of 6.2 cfs is available at least 50% of the time
from May 15th - August 14th, the summer Tecommendation was reduced to 4.0 cfs August 15th ~
October 14th based on limited water availability.
