Biologic Flow Recommendation
The summer flow recommendations, which meet 3 of 3 criteria and are within the accuracy range
of the R2CROSS model are 5.6 cfs (upper segment) or a 3.6 cfs enlargement and 7.6 cfs (lower
segment) or a 5.6 cfs enlargement (See Table 1).

Hydrologic Data

After receiving the cooperating agency's biologic recommendation, the CWCB staff conducted
an evaluation of the stream hydrology to determine if water was physically available for an
instream flow appropriation. The hydro graph below was derived from data collected by the
USGS stream gage for Saguache Creek near Saguache, CO (ill #08227000), which has a
drainage area of 595 square miles (See Gage Summary in Appendix C). The total drainage area
of the Sheep Creek Drainage is approximately 75.8 square miles. The period of record for this
gage was 1910 to 2000, the period of record used by staff in their analysis was 1910 - 2000, or
83 years of record. Tables 2, 3 and 4 below display the flow of Sheep Creek upstream of
Spanish Creek (Table 2), upstream of East Pass Creek (Table 3) and upstream of Saguache
Creek (Table 4), in terms of a percentage of exceedence.

Table 3: Sheep Creek Estimated Flow upstream of East Pass Creek.
Exceedences
1%
5%
10%
20"10
50"10
80%
90%
95"10
99%

Januarv Februarv March ADrll Mev June JulY Au.ust September October November December
3.48 4.07 8.56 29,30 53,24 55.25 30.20 23,10 16.89 10.85 7.15 4.37
2.98 3.48 6,26 15.89 40.03 40.97 21,40 16,69 11.72 8.05 5.46 3.68
2.96 3.16 5.46 11.22 31.69 34,37 17.58 13.11 8,54 6-85 4.97 3.48
2.68 2.98 4.47 8.14 21.65 25.53 13.61 10.03 6,36 5.56 4.47 3.08
2.28 2.48 3.48 5.17 11.92 14.01 7,85 6.06 4.27 3.87 3.38 2.48
1.79 2.19 2.78 3.87 6.65 6.85 4.07 3.77 2.98 2.88 2.48 1.99
1.69 1.89 2.48 3.28 5.17 4.67 2.98 2.88 2.38 2.48 2.09 1.59
1.39 1.59 2.19 2.88 4.07 2.88 2.34 2.38 1.79 2.19 1.89 1.49
1.09 1.29 1.49 2.09 2.78 1.59 1.69 1.69 1.39 1.59 1.39 1.19

Sheep Creek Estimated Stream Flow
u/s of East Pass Creek

10

en
-
U

6

----------------------------------------

8

4

2

o

JAN

FEB

MAR

APR

MAY

JUN

JUl

AUG

SEP

OCT

NOV

DfC

Month

- 4-
