Existing Water Right Information
Staff has analyzed the water rights tabulation and consulted with the Division Engineer's Office
(OED) to identify any potential water availability problems. There are two decreed surface
diversions within this reach of stream (Kichelmann Pump Diversion and Dry Park Ditch).
Aecording to the OED, there is usually sufficient water available within this stream reach to
satisfy the reeommended instream flow amount. Based on this analysis, staff has determined that
water is available for appropriation on Cottonwood Creek, from the confluence with Little
Cottonwood Creek to the confluence with the San Miguel River, to preserve the natural
environment to a reasonable degree without limiting or foreclosing the exercise of valid existing
water rights.

CWCB Staff's Instream Flow Reeommendation
Staff recommends the Board form its intent to appropriate on the following stream reach:

Seament: Little Cottonwood Creek to San Miguel River
Upper Terminus: confluence Little Cottonwood Creek
(Latitude 380 16' 16"N) (Longitude 1080 21' 04"W)
UTM = 42 40 988N 13 2 06 829 E
SW NW S6 R13W T46N PM
87' East of West Section Line 1737' South of North Section Line

Lower Terminus: confluence San Miguel River
(Latitude 380 16' 06"N) (Longitude 1080 24' OI"W)
UTM = 42 40 853N 13 2 02 495E
NE SW S3 RI4W T46N PM I
1720' East of West Section Line 2283 North of South Section Line

Counties: Montrose
Length: 3.2 miles
USGS Quad(s): Ute, Big Bucktail Creek
Flow Recommendation: 3.0 cfs (April I to June 15)

- 6-

"
