<br />A second coordination meeting was held on Novemhpr 6, lq/q, <br />attended by the City Engineer and the study contractor, Camp <br />Dresser & McKee Inc. The City was informed by Camp Dresser ~ McKee <br />Inc., of their intentions and solicited information on new <br />developments or eXisting problems in the study area. <br /> <br />A legal notice was placed in the La Junta Tribune-Democrat one day <br />a week, for three consecutive weeks, beginning October 22, 1979, to <br />notify all interested persons of the beginning of the study and its <br />objectives and to sol icit any relevant facts and technical data <br />concerning local flood hazards. <br /> <br />Federal, state and local agencies were contacted regarding the <br />availability of any reports, studies, or investigations which may <br />contain some information relative to flooding problems in the <br />community. Information was received from FEMA and CWCB. <br /> <br />During the course of the study, the results of hydrologic analyses <br />and flood elevations and boundaries, prepared by the Corps of <br />Engineers, Albuquerque District, were reviewed. As a result of <br />this review and coordination with FEMA, CWCB, and the Corps of <br />Engineers, the information supplied was used in this Flood <br />Insurance Study. <br /> <br />2.0 AREA STUDIED <br /> <br />2.1 Scope of Study <br /> <br />Thi s Flood Insurance Study covers the incorporated areas of the <br />City of La Junta, Otero County, Colorado. The area of study is <br />shown on the Vicinity Map (Figure 1). <br /> <br />The 1 imits of detail ed and approximate studies in La Junta were <br />determined by FEMA with community and study contractor consultation <br />at the meeting in June, 1979. Floods caused by overflow of the <br />Arka nsa s River, Anderson Arroyo and King Arroyo were studi ed in <br />detail within the corporate limits as determined by FEMA. <br /> <br />The areas studi ed by deta il ed methods were sel ected wi th pri ori ty <br />given to all known flood hazard areas, and areas of projected <br />development or proposed construction for the next five years, <br />through January, 1985. <br /> <br />Approximate analyses were used to study those areas having a low <br />development potential or mi nimal flood hazards. The scope and <br />methods of study were proposed to and agreed upon by FEMA, and the <br />City of La Junta. <br /> <br />2.2 Community Description <br /> <br />The City of La Junta is located in south-east Colorado in the <br />eastern portion of Otero County approximately 64 miles east of <br />Pueblo, Colorado.
