<br />SOURCESOI"DATA <br /> <br />Population of La Junta ~as 7.040 in 1940, 8,026 <br />in 1960 and had a slight decrease to 7.938 in 1970. Otero <br />County has POPulation of 23.571 in 1940; 24,128 in 1960~ <br />and 23,523 in 1970. <br /> <br />Hydraulic analysis. tield surveys, and otfice co~putations <br />for this report were compiled by Ken O'Brien and Associates, Albuquer- <br />que, Ne~ Mexico. Topographic maps of tha study area were provided by <br />Otero County. Thalle ~aps, compiled by photogrammetric methods from <br />aerial photographs taken March 18, 1976. have a horizontal scale of <br />1" 5 200' and a contour interval of 2' and published in this report <br />at a scale of 1" . 200' and a contour interval of 2', At the upstream <br />end of the Arkansas River study area. it ~as necessary to supplement <br />these maps ~ith information from USGS ,.... quadrangle maps. <br />Structural and elevation data on bridges and culverts were <br />provided by the Otero County Engineer, Cross section locations were <br />determined by the Corps cf Engineers and digitized cross section data <br />waS developed by Bell Engineering Inc., Denver, ColoradO for the Colo- <br />rado Water Coneervation Board, Croes sections ~ere providod to Ken <br /> <br />, <br /> <br />O'Brien nnd A~sociates and were aupplemented and/or a1turorl ~H ro- <br />quired. using information Obtnined in the field or scaled from topo- <br />graphic maps. Eighty-five cross sections were used to develop data <br />for this report. Cross section data are not 1n a reproducible form, <br />but are available in the District Office of inspection. <br />Hydrnulic computations were accomplished utili~1ng the <br />September 1971 version of the Hydrologic Engineering Center Computer <br />Program 723-X6-L20ZA, updated January 1976. The starting ~ater <br />surface elevation for the Arkansas River ~as Obtained by the "slope <br />area" lOathed. beg-inning at the downstream end of the study area. <br />All elevations used in this report are measured from u.s. <br />Coast and Geodetic Survey 1929 mean sea level (msl) datum, ~ations <br />of elevation reference marks in the study area are shown on Plate 16. <br />Dl\tl\ dovtllo".,d \11 th" prul'"r"tion of thh report. l.. on <br />file in th.. offic... of th..
