<br />. <br /> <br />FLOOD INSURANCE STUDY <br /> <br />~ <br />~ <br /> <br />1.0 INTRODUCTION <br /> <br />1.1 Purpose of Study <br /> <br />The purpose of this Flood Insurance Study is LO investigate the <br />existence and severity of flood hazards in the Town of Silver Plume, <br />Clear Creek County, Colorado, and to aid in the administration of <br />the National Flood Insurance Act of 1968 and the Flood Disaster <br />Protection Act of 1973. Initial use of this information will be to <br />convert Silver plume to the regular program of flood insurance by <br />the Federal Insurance Administration. Further use of the informa- <br />tion will be made by local and regional planners in their efforts to <br />promote sound land use and flood plain development. <br /> <br />1.2 Coordination <br /> <br />In a meeting held on August 16, 1976, city officials were a~guainted <br />with the National Flood Insurance Program and informed of the pro- <br />gress of the study. <br /> <br />Meetings between representatives of Black & Veatch, consulting <br />Engineers (the study contractor), and the Federal Insurance Adminis- <br />tration took place on June 17, 1977, and July 7, 1977. These meetings <br />were held to discuss the hydrology of Clear Creek County and the <br />hydraulics of the Silver Plume Flood Insurance Study. <br /> <br />The U.S. Geological Survey, the Colorado Water Conservation Board, <br />the U.s. Forest Service, the Community Desigl! Ce~ter in Denver, and <br />the Colorado Department of Highways were also contacted. <br /> <br />On October 11, 1977, this Flood Insurance Study was reviewed at the <br />final coordination meeting attended by personnel of the Federal <br />Insurance Administration and the study contractor, as well as members <br />of the community. No additions or corrections to the study were <br />deemed necessary. <br /> <br />1.3 Authority and Acknowledgments <br /> <br />The source of authority for this Flood Insurance Study is the <br />National Flood Insurance Act of 1968, as amended. <br /> <br />The hydrologic and hydraulic analyses for this study were performed <br />by Black & Veatch, Consulting Engineers, for the Federal Insurance <br />Administration, under Contract No. H-3834. This work, which was <br />completed in July 1977, covered all significant flooding sources <br />affecting the Town of Silver Plume. <br />
