<br /> <br />56 <br /> <br />A Flood Proofing Checklist <br />Some major items that should be considered in any plan for flood proofing a build- <br />ing are: <br />For Foundations and Substructure <br /> <br />1. Closure of openingS! including doors, windows, and vents. <br />2. Waterproofing and/or reinforcement of basement and foundation walls. <br />3. Reinforcement or drainage of floor slab. <br />4. Valving off or termination of entering utilities. <br />5. Continuation of internal building utility systems. <br />6. Protection for immoveable equipment. <br />7. Plans for the removal of stock.. <br />B. Procedure for implementing flood proofing. <br /> <br />For the Superstructure <br /> <br />1. Closure of windows, door and vents. <br />2. Anchorage and reinforcement of floors and walls. <br />3. Use of water resistant interior materials. <br />4. Evacuation of contents. <br />5. Reorganization of space. <br />6. Emergency protection measures. <br />7. Procedure for implementing flood proofing. <br /> <br />As noted on the checklist, measures requiring the presence of trained or experienced <br />personnel are important features of a flood proofing program. <br /> <br /> <br />Figure 45.~Flood shield to protect a home.
