<br />2.0 AREA STUDIED <br /> <br />2.1 Scope of Study <br /> <br />This Flood Insurance Study covers the geographic area of Arapahoe <br />County, Colorado. The area of study is shown on the Vicinity Map <br />(Figure 1). <br /> <br />In addition to the South Platte River, the following streams were <br />studied by detailed methods and are included in this study: Bear <br />Creek, Big Dry Creek, Big Dry Creek Tributary A, Blackmer Gulch, <br />Box Elder Creek, Cherry Creek, Coal Creek, Comanche Creek, Little <br />Comanche Creek, Coon Creek, Cottonwood Creek, Dutch Creek, First <br />Creek, Granby Ditch, Goldsmith Gulch, West Tributary Goldsmith <br />Gulch, Greenwood Gulch, Happy Canyon Creek, Lee Gulch, Little's <br />Creek, Little Dry Creek, Lone Tree Creek, Murphy Creek, Piney <br />Creek, Prentice Gulch, Quincy Gulch, Sable Ditch, Sable Ditch <br />Overflow, Sand Creek, Slaughterhouse Gulch, South Tributary to <br />Slaughterhouse Gulch, SJCD 6100, SJCD 6200, Spring Creek, West Toll <br />Gate Creek, West Toll Gate Creek Tributary, Unnamed Tributary to <br />West Toll Gate Creek, West Bijou Creek, Westerly Creek, and willow <br />Creek. <br /> <br />The tributary streams studied using approximate methods are as <br />follows: Upper reaches of Piney Creek and Coal Creek, Lone Tree <br />Creek, Senac Creek, 1-05-4412 Creek, West Box Elder Creek, Box <br />Elder Creek, Kiowa Creek, Wolf Creek, Comanche Creek, Little <br />Comanche Creek, West Bijou Creek, Middle Bijou Creek, East Bijou <br />Creek, Muddy Creek, and Deer Trail Creek. No development pressures <br />are foreseen on these streams for the next 5 years. <br /> <br />On the South Platte River, just upstream of the City of Littleton, <br />the COE has constructed Chatfield Dam. The primary purpose of the <br />dam is flood-control and recreation.
