DOE obtains technical assistance <br />from other Federal agencies. <br /> <br />o <br /> <br />Department of the Interior. <br />Interior rely on the Bureau <br />in dam safety engineering. <br /> <br />The other agencies in <br />of Reclamation for expertise <br /> <br />Staff Traininq <br /> <br />Most reporting agencies indicate significant efforts to <br />make training in dam safety subjects available to appropriate <br />elements of their staffs, either through in-house training <br />sessions and workshops, or through training provided by other <br />agencies, academic institutions, and professional societies. <br />Agencies reporting in-house training activities include: <br /> <br />Forest Service <br />Soil Conservation Service <br />Corps of Engineers <br />Bureau of Reclamation <br />Bureau of Land Management <br />Fish and Wildlife Service <br />Mine Safety and Health Administration <br />Nuclear Regulatory Commission <br />Tennessee Valley Authority. <br /> <br />Representatives of a number of Federal agencies have partici- <br />pated in dam safety training sponsored by the Federal Emergency <br />Management Agency. <br /> <br />Dam Inventories <br /> <br />As noted above, the Bureau of Land Management reports it <br />is far from completing the inventory of Federal dams on BLM- <br />controlled lands, and the Office of Surface Mining reports it <br />keeps no inventory of the dams for which it has responsibility. <br />Other agencies having responsibility for dams report that <br />their inventories are complete, or are largely so, and are <br />being maintained. <br /> <br />Independent Reviews <br /> <br />In general, the dam safety activities of the Federal <br />agencies are subject to independent reviews, but in a variety <br /> <br />Chapter 3 - page 19 <br />
