HEC-2
WATER SURFACE PROFILES

PROGRAMMERS MANUAL

INTRODUCTION

1. ORIGIN OF PROGRAM

This November 1976 version of HEC-2 is intended to replace the AU9ust
1971 version. HEC-2 was developed in The Hydrologic Engineering
Center, by Bill S. Eichert. The basic computational capabilities for
calculating water surface profiles have remained essentially unchanged.
The new version has added capability for output display, potential
for interactive computer terminal usage, and reduced storage require-
ments.

2. PURPOSE OF PROGRAM

The program computes and plots (by printer) the water surface profile
for river channels of any cross section for either subcritica1 or
supercritica1 flow conditions. The effects of various hydraulic
structures such as bridges, culverts, and weirs may be considered in
the computations. Capabilities are available for assessing the
effects of channel improvements, levees and f100dways on water surface
profiles. Input may be in either English or Metric units.

3. SUPPLEMENTARY PROGRAM

A data edit program (723-G1-L202C) which checks the data cards for
various input errors is available.

4. NOTIFICATION OF PROGRAM MODIFICATIONS

The Hydrologic Engineering Center keeps a mailing list of offices
having HEC-2 source decks. Notification of error corrections and
other program modifications is sent periodically to all addresses
on the list.

A user who finds an error in the program is requested to notify
The Hydrologic Engineering Center. Also, the Center wishes to be
notified of any changes that are required to run the program, other
than those discussed in "Equipment Requirements."

3
