The accumulated present worth of flood damage, characteristic
of the Slaughterhouse Gulch channel, is graphically shown in
Figure 6, Accumulated Flood Damage. The curve entitled exist-
ing channel condition represents the accumulated present worth
of the average annual damage which would occur through the
study area over a fifty-year period without changing the exist-
ing channel conditions. Improving the channel magnitude indi-
cated by the next lower line. The same is true for the 5, 10,
and 100-year improvements. With a 100-year design, all damages
would be eliminated and the total benefit derived would be the
present worth of flood damages presently associated with the
existing flood plain. As these curves represent damages,
Figure 7, Accumulated Flood Benefits, represents the benefits
which would be recognized if improvements or control actions
were implemented on the gulch. These benefits represent the
reduction in potential damage from the existing channel condition.
