Due to their proximity and
elevation, the Rocky Mountains have the greatest effect 0
overall weather of El Paso County. As weather from the P
travels east across the mountains, air is drained of mois
the western side. This air reaches El Paso County with a
diminished amount of water vapor, resulting in little
precipitation and semi-arid conditions in the area.

A particular type of phenomenon associated with the
front and the Rampart Range is the Albuquerque low which
most of the area's moisture. Essentially, a low pressure
travels south of Colorado from west to east, passing near
Albuquerque, New Mexico. Because of the counterclockwise
air around low pressure centers, warm, moist air from the
Mexico is drawn up along the eastern slope of the Rockies
the air rises along the Front Range, it cools and loses i
moisture in the form of rain or snow.
