Rainfall in areas west of Campus were estimated
from the rainfall isohyetal maps as shown in Figure 3. For the West Plum Street Basin a
total rainfall of seven inches was used, and for the Clearview Channel Basin 7.8 inches of
rainfall was used. Models for the Canal Consolidation Study and the West Plum Street
Basin Study simulated runoff from these areas.

These models were previously developed as part of Master Drainage Studies for the City of
Fort Collins. These models had not simulated runoff for greater than a 1 OO-year event.
Therefore the models were run for the July 28, 1997 event to estimate the flows entering the
campus. Figure 4 shows hydrographs for the canal overtopping and compares the 1997
storm estimates to the 100-year simulation.

Specifically element #53 (lagoon/library parking lot) was extended to allow overflow of the
storage area. The storage-elevation and elevation-discharge curves are presented in
Figure 5. These curves show the spill of water that would occur into the Engineering
parking lot and south along Center Avenue. Element #15 (heating plant & oval area) was
extended to allow for storage behind the railroad. Element #14 (College Gym) was revised
to allow for greater overflow across College Avenue. Storage-elevation and elevation-
discharge curves for these elements are shown in Figures 6 and 7.

7

Ayres Associates
