<br />PRE:FACE <br /> <br />Copies of this report can be obtained from the Office of <br />th"Huerfano County Land Use Jl.d:1linietrationor the Colorado i'later <br /> <br />This report presents information on the flood ha~ards and <br />flood potential at Walsenburg, Color~o and vicinity (see Plate 1). <br />It was prepared because a knowledge of flood hazards and flood pa- <br />tential is important in land-use planning. The aIea studied is <br />subject to flooding from the Cuch<lras River, Bear Creek, and the <br />North Walsenburg Vitch. Although records do not indicate that <br />any large floods have occurred in the past, this report indicates <br />that large floods are possible in the future. Properties presently <br />in flood hazard areas include residential, c~rcial, industrial, <br /> <br />Conservation Board in Denver. <br />The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Albuquerque oistrict, on <br />request, will provide technical assistance in the interpretation ~nd <br />use of the data presented as well as planning guidance and further <br />assistance, including the development of additional technical infor~ <br />mation to governmental planning agencies. <br /> <br />and agrioultural land. <br />The report includes a brief history of flooding and iden- <br />tifies those areas that are subject to possihJ;;;, future floods.
