Based on a drainage area of 1550 square miles at Uravan, the MSM
flood frequency curves yield flows in the San Miguel River as
follows:

FREQUENCY, YRS
10
50
100
500

EEAK FLOW, CFS
7,700
11 ,700
13,500
18,700

Due to the proximity of the Club Ranch Ponds to Atkinson Creek, the
study area of this report analyzed the river reach from 2,200 feet
downstream of the confluence of Atkinson Creek with the San Miguel
to 2,300 feet upstream of the confluence of Hieroglyphic Canyon
with the San Miguel. Because of this, the additional 34 square mile
drainage area of Atkinson Creek, not included in the MSM study, was
considered. The MSM flood frequency curves yielded peak flows for
Atkinson Creek as follows:

FREQUENCY, YRS
10
50
100
500

PEAK FLOI" CFS
880
1,230
1,430
2,000

These values were verified for reasonableness by checking the~
against the peak flows calculated by the methods outlined in the
Colorado Water Conservation Board's Technical f'lanual No.1: "Manual
for Estimating Flood Characteristics of Natural-Flow Streams in
Colorado". The values predicted by this publication averaged 13
percent lower than the MSM curve values. Due to the regional
nature of the MSM study based on local data, and to assure conserva-
tive results, the MSM values were used as inputs to the computer
model employed in this study.

B
