2,13

channe 1 di scharge, thereafter, is cons idered to be a mud fl ow and the appropri ate
hypercDncentrated sediment flow factors are employed.

2.5.3 INTER
The subroutine INTER calculates the discharge between the channel and the
nODd plain grid containing the channel. The velocity of ,either the outflow from
the channel or the return flow to the channel is computed based on the water'
surface e 1 evat ion in the channel and the water surface on the flood p 1 a in at some
specified distance from the channel on the grid boundary. ThE! velocity of the
interface flow is based on fl Dod p 1 a in flow roughness, depth, and slope, for
either cl ear-water or hypercDncentrated sed imE!nt fl ow. .to

2.5.4 CHAN
The CHAN subroutine calculates the water or mud flow discharge in the
channel. If mud flows are being routed in the channel, a subroutine is called
that computes hyperconcentrated sediment flow velocity. This subroutine accounts
for discharge at the outflow nodes and updates changes in the channel water'
surface elevations.

2.5.5 QFP
Thi s subroutine ca 1 cul ates the di scharge fl ux between adjacent gri d
e'lements on the flood plain. It is called from the ma'in program flood plain
rout i ne. I f mud flow di scharge is bei ng routed. anothelr subrout i ne MUDCAL is
called.

2.5.6 QFC
Similar to QFP, this subroutine calcu'lates the discharge flux between
cont i guous channel grids. QFC is ca 11 ed from the subrouti ne CHAN. For mud fl ow
discharge, the subroutine MUDCAL is called.

2.5.7 MUDCAL
Thi s subrout ine determi nes the di scharge fl ux between adj acent gri d
elements for hyperconcentrated sediment flow. It involves the additional fluid
parameters of Viscosity and yield stress in the solution to the momentum and
continuity equation.
