PRCJTI:CTION PROGRAlJ OF CITY OF DENVER (CmITfD)

tributaries of Cherry Creel" --these improvements to be located pr incipally

along the 22 mile stretch and over the 218 square miles of area between

Castlewood Dam and Sullivan Barrier, and particularly on South Cherry

Creek (which enters just above and brings sediment into the basin above

Sullivan Barrier), and on Goldsmith Gulch, which enters Cherry Creek

below and is uncontrolled by the Sullivan Barrier.

(3) Cha; nel improvements (straighten, widen, and construct

embankments) along the channel of Cherry Creek belewr Sullivan Barrier

downstream to the corpora"ce limits of the City, to protect agricultural

lands along that stretch from d~~ges.

With respect to the contemplated flood control program out-

lined above, the consensus of lOCal opinion seems to be that, in its pre-

sent stage of completion, Denver is adequately protected against damage

from floods as great as heretofore experienced; and when completed, pro~

tection will have been provided against floods several times greater in

magnitude, should any such flood ever occur. At the same time it is

realized by some, since storms and floods are conceivable of a magnitude

many times greater than any previously experienced, that protection of

Denver against such hypothetical possibilities may be justified by the

enormous damages such a flood might cause, if it should occur.

SOIL CONSERVATlm, SERVICE ACTIVITIES.

By the Flood Control Act approved Aug. 28, 1937, the

Department of Agriculture was authorized to make a preliminary examination

and prepare a survey report on flood co:tItrol of Cherry Creek and its

tributaries, Colorado. l1e are advised the said report, nmv in preparation,

-6-
