Principal spillways shall be protected against plugging
by use of a suitable trash rack. The pipe may be of
smooth welded or corrugated galvanized steel. Gage of
pipe shall be as shown in Table 7.

Sufficient anti-seep collars (diaphragms) shall be instal-
led to increase the seep distance by 10 percent. See
Table 7 for gage.

The minimum capacity of the pipe spillway shall be
equal to I cfs per acre of watershed where emergency
spillway is in silty or sandy material and 0.5 cfs for other
soils.

The principal spillway design shall be such that the
retained water depth shall not exceed five feet. This
may entail alow stage drawdown feature. See Figure 14
for details.

The outlet shall be protected from scour that might
threaten the dam. This may involve use of riprap, a
cantilever support or some type of stilling basin.
