Setting: The Fondis series occurs on nearly level table-
lands or gently sloping uplands. Slopes typically range
from 0 to about 6 or more percent. The soil is develop-
ing in thin aeolean materials I to 2 feet in thickness
overlying coarser textured outwash materials derived
from arkose deposits of the Denver and Arapahoe or
similar formations. At the type locations the average
annual precipitation is 14 inches with peak periods of
precipitation occurring in the spring and early summer
months. Mean annual air temperature is 47' F, mean
summer air temperature is 69" F, mean annual soil
temperature is 50' F, and mean summer soil tempera-
ture is 70' F.

Exhibit 2

Principal Associated Soils: These include the Buick
and Weld series. The Buick series differs in having
ochric epipedons and in being coarser textured. The
Weld series differs in having siltier lower solums and C
horizons and in having thinner solums that do not in-
cude buried soils.

Drainage and Permeability: Well drained. Runoff is
slow to medium. Permeability is slow to moderately
slow.

Use and Vegetation: They are used as native pasture-
land or for dry or irrigated cropland. Native vegetation
includes short and tall grasses and brush.

Distribution and Extent: Present known distribution
limited to eastcentral Colorado. The series is of moder-
ate extent.

ENGINEERING TEST DATA FOR SOIL SAMPLES
TAKEN FROM
DOUGLAS COUNTY, COLORADO

SCS Moisture-densitv2
Soil name and location Parent material Report No. Depth Horizon Max imum Optimum Specific gravity
dry density moisture
Inches Lb./cu.ft.
