PREFACE:

Soil erosion and sediment, once thought of as rural
problems, are causing extensive damage to soil and
water resources of developing communities. Sediment
caused by careless development and construction has
become one of Colorado's most serious sources of
water pollution.

The Soil Conservation Service has been assisting per-
sons involved in erosion and sediment control for many
years.

Our technology has developed through years of experi-
ence in the protection of soil and water resources.

This interim guide for erosion and sediment control in
urbanizing areas of Colorado has been prepared from
selected technical materials that relate to the control of
erosion on critically disturbed areas. It will be useful to
those who plan the future development of urbanizing
areas and to the developer who must maintain en-
vironmental values during and after construction. The
Colorado State Soil Conservation Board is establishing
a task force which will compile and publish a final guide
book by January 1980, '

~~'~

Robert G.
