Such an arrangement would require that local river and rainfall reports be co"~unicated promptly by responsible local officials to the Weather Service Forecast Office for evaluation and analysis. If available, this data and analysis would be used by the Weather Service to nore accurately forewarn community representatives of potential storn and flood conditions. The Corps of Enqineers' Resident Engineer at Trinidad Oam will keep local officials informed as to flood conditions and furnish advice and information that will enable them to perform preventive, rescue, relief, and protective functions to the best advantage. Local television and radio stations and newspapers will be notified in order that they may warn the general public. Flood Warni~q and Forecasting Services The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) Woather Service provides no specific flood forecasts for tributary streams of the Arkansas River in the Trinidad area. The technology of accurate river a~d flood forecasting is dependent upon adequate and timely rainfall and river stage data, and it is even mOre essential that such basic data be available, particularly rainfall reports, for areas Subject to flash flooding.
