<br />" <br /> <br />'0 <br /> <br />The office of the Colorado State Engineer, Division ot Water <br />Resources, in cooperation ~ith the National Weather Service, <br />operates a state-wide flood warning system utilizing 78 stream <br />gaging stations that are part of the Colorado satellite linked <br />water resources monitoring network operated by the State <br />Engineer. <br /> <br />RECOMMENDATIONS <br /> <br />Evacuation Plan <br /> <br />The following recommendations are included tor consideration in <br />reducing potential flood damages: <br />1. Carry out periodic maintenance of bridges to <br />preserve hydraulic capacity. <br />2. Consider dike system alternative presented in <br />this document. <br /> <br />An "Emergency Evacuation and Operations Plan" would provide for <br />alerting the public of potential flooding, and coordinating <br />community and county services during an emergency. Plan <br />imple~entation during the time of an emergency requires <br />cooperation of the general public as well as local officials. <br />This is especially important for flood fighting, evacuation, and <br />rescue operations. Communication is extremely important during <br />flood alerts. Warnings issued through the NWS are disseminated <br />by radio to state and local officials. <br /> <br />3. Raise a segment of County Road 33 north of Pawnee <br />Creek bridge for purposes of directing out-of- <br />bank flows to the bridge. <br /> <br />4. Rip rap the railroad embankment where overflow to <br />the South Platte River will occur as a result of <br />future flooding. <br /> <br />~. Do detailed study of need for flood proofing <br />around facilities in the flood plain or consider <br />flood insurance. <br /> <br />6. Information and education programs on flood <br />hazards should be made available to the public. <br /> <br />7. The main channels should be maintained to <br />preserve a balance between native vegetation, <br />conveyance capacity, channel stability, and <br />provide wildlife habitat. <br />
