The <br />stone should be well graded within the sizes available and 70 percent <br />of the stone, by weight, should exceed in least dimension the wire-mesh <br />opening. The maximUlJl size of stone should not exceed the thickness of <br />the riprap. <br /> <br />Baskets for the riprap are generally formed of galvanized woven-wire <br />fencing of No.9 or No. 12 gage wire. Ties, hog rings, and lacing wire <br />should be No.9 galvanized wire. <br /> <br />3.4 - Grouted Riprap <br /> <br />Grout for grouted riprap consists of one part portland cement and <br />three parts of sand, thoroughly mixed with water to produce grout having <br />a thick creamy consistency. The minimum amount at water should be used <br />to prevent excess shrinkage of the grout after placement. The cement, <br />saAd, and mixing shall conform to the specifications for concrete masonry <br />in reference 2. <br /> <br />The stones for grouted riprap should, in general, meet the require- <br />ments for dumped riprap except for size and gradation of stone. Size and <br />gradation should be determined for each particular project, depending upon <br />the stone available. Stone should be cl.ean and free of fines which pre- <br />vent penetration at grout; care should be taken in placing the stone to <br />keep earth or sand from filling the spaces between the stones. <br /> <br />3.5 - Concrete Riprap in Bae:s <br /> <br />Coocrete should be class C (2). Sacks should be cloth cement sacks <br />or burlap grain sacks. - <br /> <br />Each bag should contain about 2/3-cubic foot of concrete securely <br />tied it in cement sacks or the top fOlded around the bag if in burlap sacks. <br /> <br />3.6 - Concrete-Slab Riprap <br /> <br />COIlcrete for concrete-slab riprap should be class B (2) unless the <br />riprap is exposed to salt water, in which case it should be class A. The <br />slabs may be of either plain or reintorcedcOllcrete. Materials and con- <br />struction shall conform to the specifications for concrete masonry in <br />reterence 2. <br /> <br />. 11-23 <br />
