VRAIN CREEK HYDROLOGY

Enclosed is a write-up of the St. Vrain Creek hydrology.
write-up was taken from three sources:

The content of this

1. Corps of Engineers St. Vrain creek basin study of December 19081, (10),
2. The Floodplain Information Report entitled St. Vrain Creek Upstream of
Lyons, Boulder County Colorado, published in October, 1978 by Camp, Dresser
and McKee, Inc., (9),
3. Floodplain Information, Flood Control and Floodplain Management Plan for
St. Vrain Creek at Longmont, Colorado published in April, 1981 by water
Resource Consultants.

The information from the above sources was compared and no conflicts or
discrepancies were found. This information was then combined to produce a
definitive hydrological document to be used in the North St. Vrain - St. Vrain
Creek: Lyons to Longmont, Colorado study.

One area of concern in the St. Vrain Creek hydrology has been the discharges on
the North St. Vrain Creek immediately above the confluence with the South St.
Vrain Creek. These discharges were determined in consultation with Larry Lang,
Chief of the Flood Control Division of the Colorado Water Conservation Board.
The method used in determining these discharges consisted of multiplying the
figures obtained by the drainage basin area below Buttonrock Reservoir, and
adding the spillway discharge from Buttonrock Dam. The values obtained
correlated well with discharges on the South St. Vrain as well as downstream
discharges. These calculations were necessary as no information was available on
discharges at this particular point. The flows obtained are tabulated below:

Josephine W.
