<br />FLOOD INSURANCE STUDY <br /> <br />1.0 INTRODUCTION <br /> <br />1.1 Purpose of Study <br /> <br />The purpose of this Flood Insurance Study is to investi- <br />gate the existence and severity of flood hazards in the <br />City of Trinidad, Las Animas County, Colorado, and to <br />aid in the administration of the Flood Insurance Act of <br />1968 and the Flood Disaster Protection Act of 1973. <br />Initial use of this information will be to convert <br />Trinidad to the regular program of flood insurance by <br />the Federal Insurance Administration. Further use of <br />the information will be made by local and regional <br />planners in their efforts' to promote sound land use and <br />flood plain development. <br /> <br />, <br /> <br />. <br /> <br />1.2 Coordination <br /> <br />Initial coordination for this study was included in <br />meetings concerning the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers' <br />Flood Plain Information Report, Purgatoire River and <br />Tributaries, Trinidad, Colorada, (Reference 1). The <br />National Flood Insurance Program was explained in a <br />meeting on June 9, 1971. : Historical and flood plain <br />data were collected during field trips on October 3, <br />1972, and March 19, 1973. The Consultation Coordina- <br />tion Officer arranged a f~nal meeting on September 14, <br />1975, to explain and discuss the results of the study. <br /> <br />Hydrology and hydraulics developed by the Soil Conserva- <br />tion Service for the Carb~n and Fishers Peak Arroyos <br />Watershed Work Plan were used to develop flood data for <br />Fishers Peak Arroyo. <br /> <br />1.3 Authority and Acknowledgments <br /> <br />. <br /> <br />The source of authority for this Flood Insurance Study <br />is the National Flood Insurance Act of 1968, as amended. <br /> <br />The hydrologic and hydraulic analyses for this study <br />were performed by the U.S~ Army Corps of Engineers for <br />the Federal Insurance Adm~nistration, under Inter-Agency <br />Agreement Nos. IAA-H-2-73' and IAA-H-19-74, Project <br />Order Nos. 2 and 8, respectively. This work, which was <br />completed in February 1975, covered all significant <br />flooding sources affecting the City of Trinidad. <br /> <br />. <br />
