<br />Rock for grouting shall be visually checked at the quarry or at the work <br />site as required for size, elongation, crdcks, deterioration and other <br />defects visible on the entire surface area of the stone. Five percent of <br />the stone checked for cracks shall be wetted and reinspE'cted for minute cracks <br />to determine if additional inspections are necessary. Stone with crack or <br />defects that are detrimental to a long lasting product shall not be shipped <br />to the work site. <br /> <br />Material s <br /> <br />8.:i.P~ <br /> <br />Riprap must be sound and durable against disintegration under conditions <br />to be met in handling and placing, and must be hard and tenacioys and <br />otherwise of a suitable quality to ensure permanency in the specified <br />kind of work. <br /> <br />The color of the riprap must be approved by the Owner's Representative. <br />Once approved, the color shall be kept consistent through the project. <br /> <br />All stone shall be angular, each piece having its greates dimensions <br />not greater than three (3) times its lei,st dimensions and shall conform <br />to the following test requirements of the American Society for Testing <br />Ma teri a 1 Standa rd s: <br /> <br />Freeze thaw loss, maximum <br />percent after 12 cycles <br /> <br />Req~!.!_rement ASTM Standa rd <br />2.64 C-127-59 <br />45 C-535-65 <br /> AASHTO <br />10 103 Procedu re A <br /> <br />Apparent specific gravity, minimum <br /> <br />Abras i on, max imum pE!rCent <br /> <br />Concrete masonry, asphalt or concrete pavement may not be used for <br />riprap.
