I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I

8.0 Recommendations

To produce more accurate floodplain delineations some changes should be made to the
procedure. The use of the GPS surveying: for river reaches need to be in moderately clear areas
with little canopy cover for the greatest accuracy. When surveying the river reach more cross-
sections should be taken when the river reach has high sinuous stretches. This will allow HEC-
RAS to create water surface profiles thai match the sinuosity of the river and the ArcView map
will have higher accuracy. The cross-sections should be extended for surveying purposes so the
exact flood plain will be delineated. Another recommendation would be to work with James
Doan. the developer of the HEC-GeoHMS ArcView extension to detennine the source of the
Segmentation Violation described above. This would allow for a better completion of a
rainfalVrunoff model.
