STUDY AREA DESCRIPTION <br />The Dirty Woman and Crystal Creek dminage basins are right-bank tributaries to <br />Monument Creek in El Paso County, Colorado, Diny Woman and Crystal Creek's drainage area <br />at Monument Creek is approximately 6.59 square miles of which approximately 5.04 square <br />miles are included in the Dirty Woman drainage basin. The basin is divided intO seven major <br />sub-basms. Dirty Woman Creek mainstem, CryStal Creek mainstem, Lake Fork of Dirty Woman <br />Creek, Nonh Fork of Dirty Woman Creek, Middle Fork of Dirty Woman Creek, Upper Dirty <br />Woman Creek, and South Fork of Dirty Woman Creek. CryStal Creek enters <br />Monument Creek at Monument Lake, just west of the Town of Monument. Dirty Woman Creek <br />enters Monument Creek just southwest of the Town of Monument near its crossing with Me <br />Herman Road. Development has occurred throughout the entire basin. Large-Jot single family <br />residential development has occurred throughout most of the basin areas with some higher <br />density development along Imerstate 25 and within the Town of Monument. Development of <br />the basins is approximately 85.90 percent complete. <br />The ma,dmum basin elevation is approximately 7,505 feel above mean sea level. and <br />falls to approximately 6,860 feet m the lower conflllC'nce wilh MUlIulllenl Creek. Thunderstorms are common during the <br />summer months, and are typified by quick-moving low pressure cells which draw moi~ture from <br />the Gulf of Me:tico into the rcginn, Average lempera.lUres range from about 300F in the winter <br />to 150F in the summer.
