CONSULTING ENGINEERING

35

to establish the characteristics of the proposed highway are major elements of
cost that are not covered by the curves.
ASCE acknowledges the work of the of the American Road Builders'
Association,' presented in ARBA Technical Bulletin No. 253, as an authorita-
tive reference source of information relative to the field of highway practice and
recommends that guidance be sought from ARBA Bulletin No. 253 as well as
from this manual.
(b) Interprofessional and Specialty Practice
Tbere are other fields of civil engineering service which are not covered by
these curves. Typical of such fields are structural engineering for building con-
struction, surveying and mapping, and geotechnical engineering. Much of the
professional practice in these fields involves interprofessional relationships with
other practicing engineers or architects. Supplements covering such special en-
gineering practice have been developed and are included in this Manual.

* American Road Builder's Association, ARBA Building, 525 School Street, S. W., Washington,
D.C. 20024.
