These historical patterns have been modified by urban development,
agricultural uses, the construction of road crossings and the
construction of irrigation ditches. All drainage from the
study area was at one time directly tributary to the South
Platte River. However, the Platte Canyon irrigation ditch is
now the existing receiving facility intercepting the storm
flows.

BASIN 6100

The historical watershed boundary of Basin 6100 extended from
upstream of Kipling to the South Platte River. Drainage was
well defined from approximately the old Columbine Airport to
the flood plain of the South Platte River.

Construction of roadside ditches along Kipling Street has
removed from the basin the watershed upstream of Kipling
Street.

From Kipling Street to Nevada Ditch the historical drainage is
still well defined. However, from Nevada Ditch to the South
Platte River, the drainage becomes a sheet of overland flow
and thus makes the historical pattern less defined.

NORTH TRIBUTARY TO BASIN 6200

The historical drainageway from Pierce Street to Ken Caryl
Road is still well defined. From Ken Caryl Road to just
upstream of Platte Canyon Road, the old drainage pattern has
been obliterated by development but can be traced on old quad
maps.

The general direction of the drainageway downstream of Platte
Canyon Road can be traced to Nevada Ditch. The exact pathway
has been obscured by agricultural activities.

Downstream of the Nevada Ditch, the flow patterns are not well
defined where the runoff becomes a sheet of overland flow.

3-6

I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
