reproduce the unit graph for the entire basin using the same Snyder's constants.

The unit hydro graph for the basin upstream of the Castlewood Dam site was routed

by averaging four 3D-minute ordinates and lagging the resultant four time steps

from the second ordinate. This routed unit hydrograph was then added to the unit

hydrograph for the basin between the Castlewood Dam site and Cherry Creek Dam to

produce a composite hydrograph for t~e entire basin. The unit hydrograph for

Cherry Creek basin is shown on plate 18.

RESERVOIR DESIGN FLOOD

The Standard Project Flood (SPF) was selected as the Reservoir Design Flood

for Cherry Creek. The procedure ovtlined in EM 1100-2- 1411 was used for

deriving the SPF hydrograph. Losses of 0.5 inch per hour were applied to the

rainfall values to obtain the SPF runoff amounts. The rainfall e.nd runoff values

determined in this analysis are shown in table 2.

Table 2
SPF Rainfall and Runoff - Cherry Creek Basin
Time Rainfall Loss Runoff
(hours) (inches) (inches) (inches)
0-24 0.23 0.23 0
24-48 1.25 1.25 0
48-54 0,16 0.16 0
54-60 0.62 0.62 0
60-61 0,66 0.50 0.16
61-62 0.80 0.50 0.30
62-63 0.99 0.50 0,49
63-64 2.52 0.50 2.02
64-65 0,93 0,50 0.43
65-66 0.73 0.50 0.23
66-72 0.39 0.39 0
72-96 0,50 0.50 ~
9,78 6,15 3,63

The above runoff amounts were applied to the l-hour unit hydro graph for

Cherry Creek to obtain the SPF hydro graph shown on plate 19. This flood has a

peak discharge of 152,000 c,f.s. and a volume of 74,500 acre-feet. The Reservoir

Design Flood developed for the "Definite Project Report for Cherry Creek Dam and

Reservoir," prepared by the Denver District and dated January 1944, was based on

16
