Engineer, Rocky Mountain Area in Colorado Springs, Colorado. The Tri-Lakes Park
Manager, stationed at Chatfield Dam, is responsible for the overall operation and
maintenance of all project facilities, project improvements and equipment at
Cherry Creek, Chatfield. and Bear Creek Dams.

Several major items relating to Dam Safety have been addressed and corrected

within the last 5 years. Table 1 lists the major contracts awarded to correct

deficiencies and improve the safety of the project.

HYDROLOGIC ANALYSIS OF PROJECT

GENERAL

The hydrologic analysis involved developing a revised PMF hydro graph for

Cherry Creek basin based on current hydrometeorological criteria presented in

Hydrometeorological Report No. 55 dated March 1984 and revised in HMR 55A (HMR

55). The flood hydrograph, and percentages thereof, were routed through the

Cherry Creek Reservoir and downstream valley to determine the existing threshold

flood and the Base Safety Condition (BSC). An array of alternatives to upgrade

the dam to meet the dam safety criteria used by the Corps were also developed.

The reservoir routings were accomplished using the "Multiple Routing Program"

developed by the Omaha District,' except when a dam failure outflow hydrograph was

desired, in which case the National Weather Service's " DAMBRK,. p~ogram was used.

The Missouri River Division's unsteady flow routing progra.m, IIHarders", II was used

to route the outflow hydro graphs down Cherry Creek and the South Platte River or

Toll Gate and Sand Creeks,

14
