INTAKE TOWER
The concrete intake tower contains five rect.angular "rater passages, two for
each of the two outside conduits and one for the center condui t:, SerV'ice gates
in these water pasages are 6-foot by 9-foot-hydraulically-operated slide gates,
All water passages are fitted with emergency gate Slol:s, but only two cable-
operated emergency gates are provided, to be shifted among the water p.assages as
needed. Emergency gates were not installed unti.l 1984, at a cost of $330,000,
The hydraulically-operated service gates can be controlled from the hoist room
floor located just above the water passages I or can bi~ controlled from the
operating deck. The cable -hung emergency gates are controlled from the operating
deck. A contract was awarded in 1988 to install a low-flow gate, The operating
deck, at the same elevation as the embankment crest, con1:ains a standby diesel
generator, an overhead crane, and recording instruments. The intake structure
is shown on plate 13.

SERVICE BRIDGE

The service bridge, approximately 300 feet long, extends from t:he intake

tower to the embankment. The bridge has t:wo equal semicontinuous spans wi th a

12-foot roadway. This is a through girder system of rive'ted construction, The

deck slab and curbs are set on the floor bE!ams, A 3..inch pipE! railing is

furnished on top of the girders to meet MSHTO standards for bridge railing, The

substructure is a concrete pier and abutment system with spread footings on fill.

The design live load was MSHTO H-IO loading "ithout impact,

CONDUIT

The conduit consists of triple..barrel concrete cut and cover type of

structure, which is 603 feet long and has a, slope of 0.0054, The invert

elevation is 5503.67 feet m.s,l. at the upstrea,m end and. ';500,42 feet m,s,l. at

thE! downstream end, The two outer bar,:els are oblong shaped and are 8 feet wide

and. 12 feet high with a 4-foot radius on top and bottom. The center conduit has

a 12-foot diameter. A steel liner wa.s plannE!d 1:0 be installed in the center

conduit for ultimately providing irriga.tion water to downs1:ream water users. The

ultimate development never occurred, consequently, the steel liner was not

installed and the conduit has never been used.
