I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I I
I
I
I

n
\ I
, I
I I
Ii
I I
I'
U

HYDROLOGY STUDY
FOR
DOUGLAS RESERVOIR

History

At a board meeting of Windsor Reservoir and Canal Company, this
engineering firm was employed to investigate problems in keeping with
the Colorado Division of Water Resources' forthcoming letter.

This letter does ask the owner to submit a Hydrology Report which
is the only subject of this submittal.

In a telephone conversation with the State Engineer's office an
Assumption "A" flood was requested. This request was refused without
more substantiating information.

Location (see Exhibit A)

Douglas Reservoir was constructed in an oxbow of Dry Creek in Section

2, T8N, R69Wand Sections 35 and 26, T9N, R69W of the 6th P.M., in Larimer

County, Colorado.

The dam of this reservoir does cross Dry Creek and has a drainage area

of 43.8 square miles. It is physically possible to bypass the lake with

the addition of a canal. This would cut the drainage area to 5.3 square

miles. The areas are shown in Exhibit A.

The reservoir location is at longitude 1050 05' and latitude 400 42'

and lies east of the Continental Divide. The water surface is at 5204 feet

above mean sea level. The criteria used to set the design flood was to

use the more critical of 1) a flood created by a thunderstorm, or 2) the

flood created by the Probable Maximum Precipitation.

No effort has been made to date as to the determination of the most

economical alternative. It is the intent to present the results of

computations for all possible floods. It is requested that all computations

be accepted. An economic study will dictate to the owner his choice of

canal or no canal.

'~l-: ;~-:(i't-H t\i':D .r\S(~C_'[J-'l'lJ, \~~C
