For floodplain management applications, the map shows by tints, screens,
and symbols, the 100- and 500-year floodplains, floodways, and the
locations of selected cross sections used in the hydraulic analyses and
floodway computations.

7.0

OTHER STUDIES

.

In 1973, the COE published a Flood Plain Information report on the
Colorado and Gunnison Rivers in the Grand Junction area (Reference 27).
The report contained information on flood-stage elevations, water-
surface elevations and flooded area limits for the intermediate regional
flood and Standard Project Flood.

.

The 1985 Flood Insurance Study for Mesa County (Reference 1) was
prepared using 100- and 500-year flood flows for the Colorado River
which have been superseded. Flooded areas and flood profi les in the
restudy are based on more accurate topography and, therefore, are more
precise and supersede the previous Flood Insurance Study.

In 1976, the COE published Flood Hazard Information studies of the
Palisade, Grand Junction, and Frui ta areas (References 28, 25, and 15,
respectively). Because of the revised hydrology for the Colorado River
and/ or new mapping used in this study, it supersedes the previously
published studies.

In 1985, the COE performed a hydrologic study of the Colorado River from
Glenwood Springs to De Be que Canyon (Reference 10). The results of this
study were used in the current study regarding the flooding of the reach
of the Colorado River upstream of the confluence with the Gunnison
River.

Resul ts of hydrologic analyses for Big Sal t Wash and Li ttle Salt Wash
presented in the 1976 COE Flood Hazard Information Reports (Reference
15) were used in this study.

Flood Insurance Studies were published for the Town of DeBeque
(Reference 29) and the Town of Collbran (Reference 30). Data presented
in these studies agree with the current study.

.

Flood Insurance Studies
(Reference 31), City of
Palisade (Reference 33).

have been prepared for the Town of Fruita
Grand Junction (Reference 32) and the Town of

All data presented in this current study are in agreement with the Flood
Insurance Studies prepared for the afore-mentioned studies. This study
is authoritative for the purposes of the NFIP; data presented herein
either supersede or are compatible with all previous determinations.

35
