/'"

"

.

CHANGES ARE MADE IN DETERMINATIONS OF BASE FLOOD ELEVATIONS FOR THE TOWN
OF CASTLE ROCK AND THE UNINCORPORATED AREAS OF DOUGLAS COUNTY,
COLORADO, UNDER THE NATIONAL FLOOD INSURANCE PROGRAM
On September 30, 1987, the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) identified Special
Flood Hazard Areas (SFHAs) in the Town of Castle Rock and the unincorporated areas of Douglas
County, Colorado, through issuance of Flood Insurance Rate Maps (FIRMs) for both communities.
The Mitigation Directorate has determined that modification of the elevations of the flood having
a I-percent chance of occurrence in any given year (base flood) for certain locations in the Town of Castle
Rock and Douglas County is appropriate. The modified base (100-year) flood elevations (BFEs) revise
the FEMA FIRMs for the communities.
The changes are being made pursuant to Section 206 of the Flood Disaster Protection Act of 1973
(Public Law 93-234) and are in accordance with the National Flood Insurance Act of 1968, as amended
(Title XIII of the Housing and Urban Development Act of 1968, Public Law 90-448), 42 U.S.C.
4001-4128, and 44 CFR Part 6S.
A hydraulic analysis was performed to incorporate the effects of the Oman Road bridge
replacement and associated channelization along the Unnamed Tributary to Sellers Gulch and has resulted
in a revised delineation of the regulatory floodway, a reduction in SFHA, and modified BFEs from just
upstream of Lake Gulch Road to approximately 6S0 feet upstream of Oman Road. The channelized
portion of the Unnamed Tributary to Sellers Gulch, which extends from approximately 300 feet
downstream to approximately 2S0 feet upstream of the Oman Road bridge, contains the 10-, SO-, 100-,
and SOO-year floods. The table below indicates the modified BFEs for several locations along the affected
length of the Unnamed Tributary to Sellers Gulch.
