WATER
IlOIiSERVATJON BOARD

Mr. Larry Lang
Colorado Water Conservation Board
102 Columbine Building
1845 Sherman Street
Denver, Colorado 80203

Dear Mr. Lang:

As you are aware, Weld County is in the process of initiating a study of
the Big Thompson Flood Plain in Weld County. To date, we have contacted
a number of fi rms to request proposals for aeri:a 1 photography and contour
mapping of the area involved (see attached map). Our Planning Office has
received and reviewed proposals from many of these firms. We antic'ipate
a final decision by the Board of County Commissioners, regarding the
choice of a firm to perform the necessary work, by June 25, 1975.

It is our understanding that the Corps of Engineers is currently involved
in a similar study of the Big Thompson River in Larimer County. It would
seem logical to extend this study of the Big Thompson on through Weld
.County, so that the entire reach. of the River can be completed. Therefore,
Weld County would like to request that the Corps of Engineers perform the
necessary hydraulic and hydrologic investigations, and finally the actual
flood plain delineations, on the Big Thompson River in Weld County. It is
our understanding, that Weld County would have to provide the necessary
aerial photography and contour mapping before the Corps would be able to
provide engineering services or actual delineations of the referenced flood
plain area. As indicated above, we have already initiated action to ensure'
that we will be able to provide the necessary mapping.

We would appreciate it very much if your office would forward this request to
the appropriate Corps office and notify us as to their response. ' Thank you
very much for your assistance in this matter. If you have any questions,
please feel free to contact our office or Mr. Gary Fortner, Director of
Planning (353-2212 Ext. 227).

Sincerely,

~/(~~

Glenn K.
