conveyance reduction used (for Methods 3 and 4). Both of these state-
ments are printed before the standard cross section output for a cross
section. The sequence of the output is the same as the sequence in
which calculations are perfonned. First, the water surface elevation
is increased over the natural level, and the resulting conveyance is
computed. The calculated increase in conveyance, expressed as a ratio
of the natural conveyance, is then eliminated from the cross section by
encroachment. Next the flow area outside the computed encroachment
stations is elill1nated fl'Oll the cross section. After the cross section
is adjusted. the water surface elevation is computed by the standard
step method.
The Summary Printout shown on page 12 of Appendix II reflects the
choice of variables selected on the J3 card. The first part summarizes
characteristics of the calculated profiles. The second part is a
summary of differences. Differences in computed water surface elevation
(CWSEL) between each profile and between each cross section, as well as
differences between the natural profile and encroached profile (CWSEL-
WSELK) are shown. This last difference indicates the impact of
encroachments on computed water surface elevations. To have the
CWSEL-WSELK data printed out, the user must include WSELK (Code No.9)
on the J3 card as shown in the example.
In reviewing the results of the first trial, not only should the
rise in water surface elevation be reviewed, but the entire run should
be reviewed for reasonableness of results for both the natural and
encroached profiles. The impact of the encroachment option on topwidths

11
