I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
'.
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I

I. INTRODUCTION

This hydrologic summary has been prepared for the Federal Emergency
Management Agency in conjunction with Flood Insurance Studies for eight
Colorado communities. It is intended to provide a technical summary of the
hydrologic review and analyses carried out while preparing detailed flood-
plain maps and profiles for each community. This summary has been prepared
under Contract Number EMW-C-0046 and is intended to finalize the hydrologic
analysis portion of the contract.

The Colorado communities studied include Buena Vista, Canon City, Del
Norte, Gunnison, La Junta, Lamar, Monte Vista and Salida. A hydrologic
review to check existing literature for possible use in determining flood
elevations was carried out for each of the above communities, where
applicable. A recommendation of peak flood discharges for the 10-, 50-,
100- and 500- year recurrence intervals was made based upon these
hydrologic reviews. Letters which summarized the recommended flow rates
were prepared and submitted to FEMA for review. These letters have been
attached in Appendix A of the Hydrologic Summary.

The communities studied under Contract EMW-C-0046 also included the Town of
Florence, Colorado. The hydrologic and hydraulic analyses for this
community has been delayed and therefore no peak discharges for this
community are contained herein. An addendum to this Hydrologic Summary
will be submitted when the hydrologic review is completed by FEMA, the
Colorado Water Conservation Board (CWCB), and COM, the study contractor.

3
