The Sond Creek watershed has <br /> <br />average annual rainfall of abo~t 14.4 inche~, whereas the Cherry Creek <br /> <br />watershed haa 13.8 inches. However, both basins experience violent <br /> <br />th~derstorms with hlgh.intensity short duration rainfall. This type <br /> <br />of ~torm prod~cea the s~dden rises in stream stageo which rnoy result in <br /> <br />extensive overbank flooding. Figure 2 illustrates Denver rainfall <br /> <br />characteristics, and the regional storm of May 1935 in term~ of eq~ivalent <br /> <br />rainf811 quantitie~ transposed to the Sand and Cherry Creek Io'ateraheda. <br /> <br />There sre no known meteorological faetora whleb wo~d prevent the oeeur- <br /> <br />ranee of a similar storm On these watersbeds. <br />
