<br />PLANNING ASSISTANCE TO STATES <br />SECTION 22 STUDY <br />WHITE RrVER AT <br />RANGELY, COLORADO <br /> <br />ocrOBl':1l: 199"1 <br /> <br />PURPOSE OJ' STUDY <br /> <br />Th e Town of Rangely, Colorado, through .the Colora.do Water <br />Conservation Board, requested that 1:he Corps of Engineen'; conduct <br />a study on the White River at JRanqely t:o evaluate the flood <br />protection provided by an existing le,vee and to propose' possible <br />levee i.mprovements. The area of interest in this study was the <br />reach e,f the river downstream from Coal Mine Draw. <br /> <br />AUTHORIZA~rIQN <br /> <br />section 22 of the Water Resources Development Act of 1974, as <br />amendec (Public Law 93-251), definl<!s the, Planning Assistance to <br />states program and is the author i 1:y for this study. This law <br />authorizes the Chief of Engineers to cooperate with states, their <br />subenti ties, and Indian t.ribes in planning for the development, <br />utiliz2tion, and conservat.ion of wat:er and related land rl<!sources. <br />'l'he Te,wn of Rangely was 1:he cost:-sharing sponsor for .this study. <br /> <br />SCOPE OF EiTtJDY <br /> <br />Tr.is study was a cooperative ,,,ffort between the Town of <br />Rangel)' and the corps of EngineElrs. The Colorado Water <br />Conseryation Board also provided assistance. The scope' of work <br />was neqotiated and included in the Letter of Agreement: for this <br />study, executed between the par1:ies on 25 August 1992. The <br />following is a summary of .the main t,asks identified in t:he, scope of <br />work: <br /> <br />.
