Lang, P.E.' <br />Ch~ef Flood Control and Floodplain Management <br />Colorado Water Conservation Board <br />Department of Natural Resources <br />823 State Centennial Building <br />1313 Sherman Street <br />Denver, Colorado 80203 <br /> <br />Re: Designation and Approval of the Flood Insurance Study and Flood <br />Insurance Rate Maps for the Unincorporated Portions of Otero County, <br />Colorado <br /> <br />Dear Mr. Lang: <br /> <br />In an effort to regulate various land uses within flood prone areas of <br />our County, whereby public hazard and property damage may be reduced or <br />avoided in the future, the County of Otero hereby requests the Colorado Water <br />Conservation Board to designate and approve the Flood Insurance Study and <br />Flood Insurance Rate Maps, Otero County, CoJorado, Unincorporated Areas, <br />developed by the Division of Natural and Technological Hazards, a Division <br />of the Federal Emergency Management Agency, under the Authority of the <br />National Flood Insurance Act. With this approval Otero County will include <br />the aforementioned report and its provisions in our Flood Management Program. <br />Inclusion of this Study and Rate Maps is a portion of the requirements set <br />forth by the Federal Emergency Management Agency for conversion of the unin- <br />corporated areas of Otero County from the Emergency Phase of the National <br />Flood Insurance Program to the Regular Phase of the National Flood Insurance <br />Program. The information and data. in the Federal Insurance Study and on the <br />Rate Maps was derived from two previous reports done within Otero County. <br />These reports are entitled Special Flood Hazard Information, Arkansas River, <br />Anderson & King Arroyos, La Junta, Otero County, Colorado, prepared by the <br />Department of the Army, Albuquerque District, Corps of Engineers, Albuquerque, <br />New Mexico, .dated August 1977 and 'the other entitled, Floodpl mn Information <br />Report'- Arkansas River, Timpas Creek, Otero County Colorado prepared by MSM <br />Consultants, Incorporated, dated August 1981. Both reports were previously <br />accepted by the Colorado Water Conservation Board and have been implemented <br />in our current Floodplain Managment Program. <br /> <br />Please accept our sincere appreciation and gratitude for the Colorado <br />Water Conservation Board's cooperation and assistance. <br /> <br />P.O.
