In addition to their primary <br />concerns, river conservancy districts and drainage <br />districts can construct drainage or flood control im- <br />provements. School districts Initiate coop_Ive edu- <br />cation and public information programs. Counties, <br />cities, towns and fire districts often enter into mutual <br />aid agreements to support each other during emergen- <br />cies. These agreements can include loaning building <br />officials and other staff to help with heavy workloads <br />during recovery, <br /> <br />A.1.3 Urban Drainage and Flood Control <br />District (UFDCD) <br /> <br />Types of Assistance: The Urban Drainage and Flood <br />Control District was established by the Colorado legis- <br />lature in 1 969. for the purpose of assisting local <br />governments in the Denver metropolitan area with <br />multi-jurisdictional drainage and flood control prob- <br />lems. The District covers an area of 1608 square miles <br />and includes Denver, parts of the 5 surrounding coun- <br />ties, and all or parts of 33 incorporated cities and <br />towns. There are about 1600 miles of "major dralnage- <br />ways" which are defined as draining at least 1000 <br />acres. The present population of the District is approxi- <br />mately two million people. <br /> <br />The District can help by documenting fiood ievels and <br />the effectiveness of in-place structures.
