Within the city

limits of Pueblo, the extensively developed Fountain Creek flood

plains are occupied by most of the wholesale-retail business

district, several industrial establishments, commercial warehouses,

and substantial residential development including schools, churches,

a public park, and a sports stadium. In addition to the streets

and highways usually found in an urban area, several railroad lines

cross or parallel the watercourse. This complex includes two rail--

road and four vehicular bridge structures.

In the upper portion of the study reach, between the

city limits and the north boundary of Pueblo County, development

is scattered and primarily-agriculture. Two railroads, Interstate

Highway 1-25, and Overton Road parallel fountain Creek in this reach

(see Plate 5i~ The only bridge structure is on the county road

near Pinon (see Plate 7).

13
