..

CHANGES ARE MADE IN DETERMINATIONS OF BASE FLOOD ELEVATIONS FOR THE CITY AND
COUNTY OF DENVER, COLORADO, UNDER THE NATIONAL FLOOD INSURANCE PROGRAM

On March 4, 1996, the Federal Emergency Management Agency identified Special Flood Hazard Areas
(SFHAs) in the City and County of Denver, Colorado, through issuance of a Flood Insurance Rate Map
(FIRM), The Mitigation Directorate has determined that modification of the elevations of the flood having
a I-percent chance of being equaled or exceeded in any given year (base flood) for certain locations in this
community is appropriate. The modified base flood elevations (BFEs) revise the FIRM for the community,

The changes are being made pursuant to Section 206 of the Flood Disaster Protection Act of 1973 (Public Law
93-234) and are in accordance with the National Flood Insurance Act of 1968, as amended (Title XIII of the
Housing and Urban Development Act of 1968, Public Law 90-448), 42 U,S,c. 4001-4128, and 44 CFR
Part 65.

Hydrologic and hydraulic analyses were performed to incorporate the construction of the Goldsmith Gulch
Flood Control Project and have resulted in a revised delineation of the regulatory floodway and SFHA and
changes in BFEs for Goldsmith Gulch and a portion of Cherry Creek. The table below indicates existing and
modified BFEs for selected locations along the affected lengths of the flooding source(s) cited above,

Existing BFE Modified BFE
Location (feet)* (feet)*
Cherry Creek:
Approximately 50 feet upstream of South Holly Street 5,373 5,373
Approximately 1,500 feet upstream of South Holly Street 5,382 5,381
Approximately I, 900 feet upstream of South Monaco Street
Parkway 5,399 5,399
Goldsmith Gulch (downstream of Evans Avenue):
At confluence with Cherry Creek 5,395 5,394
Approximately 100 feet downstream of
Jewell Avenue 5,417 5,413
Approximately 1,000 feet upstream of
Jewell Avenue 5,423 5,422
Goldsmith Gulch (Upstream of Iliff Avenue):
Just upstream of Iliff Avenue 5,437 5,436
Approximately 100 feet upstream of Yale Avenue 5,457 5,460
Just downstream of Kenyon Avenue 5,506 5,505
At Belleview Avenue 5,590 5,586
South Monaco Street Parkway Overflow:
Intersection of South Monaco Street Parkway
and Florida Avenue 5,396 5,392
Approximately 300 feet upstream of intersection
of South Monaco Street Parkway and Jewel Avenue 5,420 5,419
Approximately 100 feet downstream of Iliff Avenue 5,437 5,436

*National Geodetic Vertical Datum, rounded to nearest whole foot
