<br />Analyses of the hydraulic characteristiCS of the streams in the s tudyreach
<br />were carried out by Camp Dresser & McKee to provide estimates of thew ater
<br />surface elevations for floodsoftne selected recurrence intervals. >later
<br />surface profiles >lere ca1culated using the Army Corps of Engineers HEC-2,
<br />step-back >later surface profile computer program. Water surface profiles
<br />>lerecomputed for the 10-, 50-, 100-, and500-year floods and are plotted
<br />for theArkansasRiver,florence Area, on Plates 3 through 15 in Appendix
<br />1, and for the ArKansas River, Canon City Area, Plates 3 through 20 in
<br />Appendix 11.

<br />Cross-sections for the backwater analyses uf the Arkansas River ....ere
<br />field-surveyed at close intervals dbove and below brldges and culverts 1n
<br />order to compute the significant bacKwater effects of theSE' structures.
<br />Additional digitized cross sections were secured when the topographic maps
<br />were compiled. Locations of the field-surveyed and dig1tized cros ssections
<br />are shown on the flooded area maps and the flood profiles. The reference
<br />points,lOO-year flood elevations and discharges are also listed in Tables
<br />5-1 and 5.11.
