The <br />flood plain area created by this River effects the County as well as 5 municipal area <br />The unincorporated community of North La Junta is entirely within the flood plain are <br />The flood plain area of North La Junta/La Junta Gardens is an older residential area <br />which was constructed Pre-Flood Plain Study and is fairlydens~ly populated. The remain'ng <br /> <br />flood plain area in the County also effects major highways, business districts, etc. <br /> <br />. What does your community value about stream corridors? The Arkansas River area provides a <br /> <br />natural wild life habitat. The community has started planning for walking paths <br /> <br />& bike trails along the river corridor as well as along the arroyo corridors. <br /> <br />. What are the barriers (technical, financial. political, or others) to achieving your community's <br /> <br />goals for stream corridors'? Otero County is a rllTal a~rip.ll1t1tral based ('.ommllnity. The <br /> <br />economy of the area is not sufficient to provide the necessary funding to achieve the <br /> <br />goals. Otero County also lacks technical expertise in this area. <br /> <br />. What person or group is most active/involved in your community's stream corridors? <br /> <br />Otero County is actively involved in the community stream corridors. Kathy Ehrlich <br /> <br />is the Land Use Administrator/Flood Plain Manager. The Board of County Commissioners <br /> <br />are also active in flood plain management and stream corridor development and <br />planning. <br /> <br />, <br />
