Basic planning between the County of Otero and the Ci ty of La Junta <br />has begun on a bike & walking path that would travel along the arroyos and along the <br />Arkansas River. Open space, wildlife habitat enhancement would also be included in t e <br />plan. Protectlon of roadway & Utility Systems is an important issue due.to the <br />continued bank erosion & meandering course of the river is threatening major highways <br />, <br />& t'tility services. The Arkansas River is adjacent to the Santa Fe Railroad tracks & <br />se~eral highway corridors in Otero County.
