has begun on a bike & walking path that would travel along the arroyos and along the
Arkansas River. Open space, wildlife habitat enhancement would also be included in t e
plan. Protectlon of roadway & Utility Systems is an important issue due.to the
continued bank erosion & meandering course of the river is threatening major highways

& t'tility services. The Arkansas River is adjacent to the Santa Fe Railroad tracks &
se~eral highway corridors in Otero County. Flooding of the river also effects domest c

If yes, describe. Otero County is interested in a studv regarding rising ground water in
the North La Junta/La Junta Gardens area. As the river channel elevation increases
groundwater increases. This problem has damaged several acres of farm land as well
I as damaging homes in this area.
