The <br />actual limits of overflow areas on the ground may vary slightly from <br /> <br />plains ar.d furnish information on the flood hazard areas that adjoin <br />Fountain Creek in Manitou Springs and west Colorado Springs. I\s shown <br />on Plate 1, the study area extends along Fountain Creek from th~ <br />junction of P~nument and Fountain Creek to the western city li~its of <br />p~nitou Springs. <br />Contents of this report arc desig~ed to provide local <br />govornment agencies, commercial i~terests, and concerned citizens <br />with data that will aid in planning the best use of flood prone lands <br />and concribute to the solution of flood problems. Aside fro~ serving <br />as a tool for improving flooC plain management, the repOrt can be <br />helpful in dosiqr.ing bridgos, roads, flood protection structures, and <br />detormining where they should be located. The decision ~aki~g prc. <br />ces. must consider the existing environmental attributes cf the flood <br />plain areas and evaluate their probable role in the community's planned <br />future growth. <br />The report includes information on historic floods, the <br />cIlrr"nt flood situation, and on the ~at'~re and extent of probable <br /> <br />those shown on various plate illustrations in the report because of <br />map scale limitations which do not per~it precise plotting of the <br />floodad area bou~daries. <br /> <br />An informative brOChure, entitled "FloodS on Fountain <br />Creek.oColoradoSprlnqs-!4anitouSprings, COlor"do, " has been pre pared <br />to accompany the report.
